Blue Hill Falls
Blue Hill, Maine
A reversing tidal falls at the Route 175 bridge between Blue Hill and South Blue Hill, on the Salt Pond to Blue Hill Bay channel.
At a glance
Overview
Blue Hill Falls is a reversing tidal falls on Route 175 between Blue Hill and South Blue Hill, where Salt Pond drains through a narrow channel to Blue Hill Bay. It is a well-known spot for watching the tidal rip and, on larger tides, for experienced whitewater kayakers surfing the standing waves. The bridge gives a safe viewing platform; the water itself is cold, cluttered with boat traffic, and not a casual swim.
