The historic Kennebec River dam falls at Solon and Embden, on the site of a former great salmon falls.
At a glance
Overview
Caratunk Falls is the historic Kennebec River drop at Solon and Embden, now the site of the Williams Hydro dam. Long before the dam, this was one of the great Atlantic salmon falls on the river and a Wabanaki fishing ground; today visitors watch the tailrace and the fish-passage works from public viewpoints. It is a viewing and heritage stop, not a swim.
