Head of the Tide Falls
Alna, Maine
The Sheepscot River fish-ladder site at the head of tide in Alna, Lincoln County.
At a glance
Overview
Head of the Tide Falls sits on the Sheepscot River in Alna, at the spot where tidal water stops and the freshwater river begins. It is a small fish-ladder and viewing area rather than a big cascade, with a quiet stretch of river below and a rocky sluice above. It is a scenic and history stop in the Sheepscot Valley, not a swim destination.
