Hemingway & Lords Falls
Sanford, Maine
Paired historic mill falls on the Mousam River in downtown Sanford, York County.
At a glance
Overview
Hemingway Falls and Lords Falls are paired historic mill drops on the Mousam River in downtown Sanford, in York County. The river has been dammed and redirected for mill and power use for more than a century, so the falls today are as much industrial-landscape artifact as natural feature. Treat the area as a riverwalk and history stop; the river is not a swim site.

Getting there
From downtown Sanford, use the Mousam River walkways and park pull-offs near the old mill sites. The river is channelized through town, so the viewing areas are close to the falls but fenced in spots.
