Screw Auger Falls (Grafton Notch)
Newry, Maine
Grafton Notch State Park's polished slot-rock waterfall on the Bear River in Newry, Maine. Route 26 roadside.
At a glance
Overview
Screw Auger Falls in Grafton Notch State Park is a polished slot-rock drop on the Bear River in Newry, right along Route 26 in the Grafton Notch corridor. It is one of western Maine's best-known roadside waterfalls, with a short paved walk from the day-use lot to the viewing ledges above the chute. The smooth rock is treacherously slick when wet; this is a look-and-photograph stop, not a swim.
