Cascades in Cold River Gorge
Florida, Massachusetts
Cold River rapids and ledges along Route 2 in the Mohawk Trail State Forest gorge. Pull-off viewing; no safe swim in high water.
At a glance
Overview
The Cold River runs hard through a rocky gorge alongside Route 2 on the Mohawk Trail. The cascades are the visible rapids and ledges viewed from pull-offs between Charlemont and Florida (Drury village), inside Mohawk Trail State Forest. The river is dangerous in high water -- current is strong and the bedrock is slick. Use the pull-offs for viewing and short rock-scramble stops, not for swimming.
