The Lower Falls is the first major tier of Race Brook Falls, about a half-mile from the Race Brook trailhead on Route 41 in Sheffield. It's the practical turnaround for visitors who don't want the steep push to the upper tiers and the Appalachian Trail. The pool is small and the schist is slick — a viewing and photo stop, not a swim.

Getting there
Use the same Route 41 (South Undermountain Road) Race Brook trailhead. Follow the blue blazes roughly a half-mile in to the first major tier — this is the Lower Falls. Turn around here if you're not committing to the full climb.
