Mount Washington, Massachusetts
Off-trail gorge inside Mount Washington State Forest on Schermerhorn Brook. Route-finding required; not a casual family walk.
At a glance
Overview
Schermerhorn Gorge is a rugged side gorge inside Mount Washington State Forest, cut by Schermerhorn Brook in the wider Bash Bish / Mount Washington corridor. Most of the route is off-trail or via faint paths — it is a bushwhack, not a signed family walk. Steep, loose rock and wet ledges; route-finding and a map are needed.

Getting there
Start from an authorized Mount Washington State Forest pull-off and work in on Schermerhorn Brook with a map / GPX. The corridor is off any signed trail — wet rock, steep sides, and loose leaf litter make the descent slow.
