Gem Pool
Carroll, New Hampshire
A deep plunge pool ~2.1 mi up the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail from the Cog Railway base in Carroll.
At a glance
Overview
Gem Pool is a clear deep plunge pool on the Ammonoosuc River about 2.1 miles up the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail from the Marshfield Station / Cog Railway base area. The pool sits below a small cascade at a trail junction, and it's a natural turn-around for hikers who don't want to continue up the steep rock staircase to Lakes of the Clouds Hut above. Cold year-round, real fall hazard around the wet ledge, and a serious forest walk to reach. Not a casual swim.
