At a glance
Overview
Lonesome Lake is a 2,760-ft-elevation mountain lake above Lafayette Place in Franconia Notch, home to the AMC's Lonesome Lake Hut and one of the classic family hikes in the Whites. The Lonesome Lake Trail climbs ~1.6 miles and ~1,000 ft from Lafayette Place to the hut and lakeside loop. The lake itself is cold and shallow at the edges — swimming is allowed but conditions are rough (bog-style bottom, no beach). Better as a destination hike than a swim.
