Getting there
Devil's Gorge is the LOWER set of cascades in Clarendon Gorge on the Mill River and is reached by hiking and swimming UPSTREAM from the main Clarendon Gorge swimming area -- not by a dedicated trailhead of its own. From Rutland, take US 7 south past the Rutland Airport / VT 103 exit, then turn left onto VT 7B; at the immediate fork, keep left on VT 7B (River Road continues straight). Park at the dirt pull-off on the right marked by large concrete blocks (the main Clarendon Gorge trailhead / AT crossing). Walk down to the Mill River at the main gorge pool, then work your way upstream over ledge and rock to the lower cascades -- expect sections that require swimming or climbing around pour-overs. The Appalachian Trail suspension bridge over Clarendon Gorge (the Mill River Suspension Bridge) is CLOSED due to structural failure; thru-hikers are currently detouring between VT 103 and VT 140 by road.
