Getting there
Emerald Lake State Park is at 65 Emerald Lake Lane, East Dorset, VT, on US 7 between Manchester and Rutland (NOTE: the previous version of this guide incorrectly described Waterbury Center State Park -- that's a different park). Pull into the signed park entrance off US 7, pay the day-use fee at the contact station, and follow the road to the day-use lot near the lake. From the lot it's a short walk down to the natural sandy swim area at the south end of the lake. The park operates from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through the second Monday in October; day-use hours are 10:00 AM to official sunset. Canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals are available at the lakeside rental concession.
