Getting there
Foster's Hole is a classic Stowe brook pool on Notch Brook, downstream of Smugglers Notch. From Stowe village, follow VT 108 (Mountain Road) north 5.2 miles; just past Matterhorn bar/restaurant, turn LEFT onto Notchbrook Road. Drive about 0.25 miles up Notchbrook Road to the worn pull-off on the right; the hole is reached via a short path and roughly 15 stone steps down the steep embankment to the water. There is NO formal parking lot -- use only the wider shoulder pull-offs and never block driveways or the narrow Notchbrook Road travel lane. No bathrooms, no trash, no lifeguard.
