Getting there
Green River Meadows is a 35-acre Vermont River Conservancy public conservation site at 741 River Road in Guilford, with a 0.4-mile meadow trail and four marked trail-to-river access points on the Green River. From I-91 Exit 1 in Brattleboro, follow US 5 south 1.3 miles, turn right onto Guilford Center Road and drive 4.6 miles, turn right onto Jacksonville Stage Road for 2.5 miles, cross the Green River covered bridge, then turn LEFT onto River Road and drive 0.6 miles to the signed gravel parking area on the LEFT. The site offers open meadow, shade, cool shallow pools, and a few deeper holes; the Green River here is family-friendly with gentle currents in typical summer flow. Pack out your trash and follow VRC signage. The separate Green River Village swimming area by the covered bridge and dam is a different spot -- occasionally drawn down by the dam operator (e.g. July 2024 maintenance); do not confuse the two.
