Getting there
Grout Pond is an 84-acre, 28-ft-deep pond in the Green Mountain National Forest in Stratton, with 12 campsites and a network of multi-use trails around the shoreline. Access is via Forest Road 262 off Kelley Stand Road (Stratton-Arlington Road); from VT 100 in West Wardsboro, take Kelley Stand Road west about 6 miles and turn LEFT onto FR 262 (dirt, can be muddy). Park at the Grout Pond trailhead and walk the short spur to the day-use shoreline; swimming is permitted from the shore -- no developed beach and no lifeguard. Kelley Stand Road is typically closed in winter, and the campground is under reconstruction May-October 2026 with sites 1-11 first-come / first-served and limited lower-lot parking. Vault toilets; hand-pump water in the day-use area; pack out all trash.
