Getting there
The canonical Longley Covered Bridge spans the Trout River in Montgomery, not the Missisquoi in Troy. Troy's historic River Road covered bridge burned in February 2021 and has not been replaced. If you are looking for the Trout River swim hole below Longley Bridge in Montgomery, follow VT 118 into Montgomery Village and then head west on North Hill Road and Longley Bridge Road to the bridge; a small pull-off sits just before the crossing. Below the bridge, a deep calm pool sits in a wide stretch of the Trout River, and a short worn path drops to the bank. The water is clear most of the summer, with current that picks up quickly after rain. Treat the stored Troy coordinate on this page as unverified until it is reconciled with the Montgomery site or confirmed as a different feature.
