Getting there
Marble Street Quarry is a flooded abandoned marble quarry in West Rutland off Marble Street (VT 4A). The land is privately owned, but the site is used de facto by swimmers, divers, and jumpers at their own risk. Pull off at the informal shoulder spot marked by a set of large stones along Marble Street and follow the worn path a short distance to the quarry rim. This is not a casual swim hole. Divers use the quarry because it is deep, clear, and cold, with depths past 120 feet, near-vertical submerged walls, and a network of underwater ledges and openings. Expect cold water within a few feet of the surface, sudden drop-offs, and the ongoing hazard of submerged debris. Do not jump from the rim, do not swim out alone, and do not bring small children into the water. Conditions can change without warning; treat this more like an unsupervised technical dive site than a family-friendly quarry.
