Getting there
North Beach is Burlington's long sandy public beach on Lake Champlain at 52 Institute Road, just north of the city waterfront and linked to the Burlington Greenway bike path. Walking and biking in is free; cars pay a seasonal parking fee (roughly May through Labor Day). Lifeguards are typically on duty from mid-June through late August, with weekend coverage into early September; swimming is prohibited from dusk to dawn. Pets are not allowed on the sand or in the swim water, though they are welcome in grassy park areas. Tubes and inflatable rafts are prohibited in the swim zone, as are unattended children under twelve; bring an adult for every kid. The adjacent campground adds showers and a snack bar on site. North Beach is monitored along with Leddy and Oakledge for cyanobacteria and E. coli; check the Burlington Parks swim water page before a bloom-risk day.
