Getting there
Rainbow Rock is the local nickname for an informal swim pocket in the Chester area of Windsor County, along one of the small rivers that drain the hills south of town. It is not a canonical named swim hole, there is no signed access, and the banks include private farmland. Treat it as a scout-first stop: pull off fully clear of the travel lane, check for posted signage, and walk in only if access reads as public. The river runs cold in the first half of summer and thins fast in dry weather. For a developed Windsor County stop, North Hartland Lake USACE beach and the Green River Reservoir paddle-in sites (over in Hyde Park) are the better-known picks.
