Getting there
Silver Lake State Park sits on thirty-four-acre Silver Lake at 20 State Park Road in Barnard, Windsor County. The park combines a sandy day-use swim beach, a picnic area, a snack bar, restrooms and changing rooms, canoe and kayak rentals, and thirty-nine tent and RV sites with seven lean-tos in the adjacent campground. The beach is shallow with a sandy bottom, making it a reliable family swim. Standard Vermont State Parks day-use fees apply at the contact station, and the park runs from Memorial Day weekend through the second Monday in October, 10 a.m. to sunset. There is no lifeguard, and pets are not allowed on the beach or in the designated swimming area. From US 4 in Woodstock, drive about twelve miles north on VT 12, turn right into Barnard village at the general store, and follow State Park Road to the gatehouse.
