Getting there
Swinging Bridge refers to a historic pedestrian suspension or 'swinging' bridge in Clarendon, Rutland County, with an informal swim pocket on the river below. The bridge itself is a listed historic crossing maintained by the town; the swim is unofficial and the surrounding banks are largely private. Expect a brief roadside or sidewalk approach from a allowed pull-off, then a short bank walk to the water -- respect posted signage and stay off private riverfront. There is no lifeguard and no facilities, the bridge can sway and has posted load limits, and the water runs cold and current-fed most of the summer. For a developed Rutland County stop, Bomoseen State Park beach on Lake Bomoseen and the Falls of Lana at Silver Lake State Park in Leicester are the stronger choices.
