Getting there
Trout River Falls refers to a short run of drops and swim pools on the Trout River in Montgomery, Franklin County, near the town's concentration of covered bridges. The area sits on a mix of Vermont River Conservancy-conserved frontage and adjacent private parcels; expect a small allowed pull-off, a short bank trail, and a swim cove with rocky shallows and a deeper bend pool. There is no lifeguard and no facilities. The Trout River runs cold and clear most of the summer and turbid after rain. Respect posted boundaries around the covered bridges and private riverfront. For a developed Franklin County swim, Lake Carmi State Park beach in Enosburg Falls and Burton Island State Park off Saint Albans Bay are the stronger destinations.
