Getting there
Twenty Foot Hole is the Vermont River Conservancy swim site on a Black River tributary in Reading, Windsor County. A short wooded trail leads from the VRC-marked trailhead to three stacked pools and cascades tucked into a narrow stone gorge. Historically this was a popular jumping hole with the namesake twenty-foot drop; after recent storm seasons, both VRC and New England Waterfalls explicitly warn that sediment buildup has reduced depth in the lower pools and cliff jumping is now dangerous -- assume depth is not what older photos show and do not jump. The site is open dawn to dusk, there is no lifeguard, and visitors are asked to pack out everything and respect the surrounding private land. From VT 106 / Reading Hill Road, follow the local directions on the VRC site page to the marked trailhead lot.
