Getting there
The Waitsfield Village Bridge swim refers to the stretch of the Mad River right at the Waitsfield Covered Bridge (Big Eddy / Village Bridge) in Waitsfield, Washington County (county stored Unknown and flagged). The covered bridge is one of the oldest in continuous use in Vermont; the river below runs through a rocky channel with cobbles, shallow bars, and a deeper bend pool along the east bank. This is an unofficial swim with no lifeguard, no facilities, and no formal signage. Expect current that picks up quickly after upstream rain along the Mad River corridor and cold water most of the summer. Park in the village lot or on-street and walk the short path to the riverbank. Respect private frontage on both banks. For bigger Mad River swims, Warren Falls (GMNF) and Ward's Hole off VT 100 are the area's stronger destinations.
