Getting there
The Cascades (sometimes called 'The Chutes') sit off the main dam road at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Union Village Dam flood-control project in Thetford, on the Ompompanoosuc River. From the ACE entrance, follow the dam road past the green bridge; the Cascades swim area is to the north. A separate sandy beach on the Ompompanoosuc and another swim area on the West Branch are accessible from the Tucker Hill Road entrance. Season runs Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day; gates close to cars off-season but the site stays open for pedestrians and bikes.
