Getting there
What is called 'Crystal Lake Falls' in Barton is really a series of industrial cascades at the outlet of Crystal Lake where Willoughby Brook (also mapped as the Glover River) runs through the village. The surrounding Crystal Lake Falls Historic District -- known locally as the 'Brick Kingdom' -- sits along Water Street and Main Street in Barton village; there is no dedicated hiking trail or developed viewing area. If you want a clean swim stop, skip the falls and use Crystal Lake State Park or Pageant Park on the lake itself. If you still want to see the cascades, drive the village slowly along the Willoughby Brook corridor and view from public sidewalks only -- do not enter the old mill yards or step onto dam works.
