Getting there
The Falls on the Waterbury Trail (locally 'Brutus Falls') is a 40-foot drop on an unnamed stream along the blue-blazed Waterbury Trail in C.C. Putnam State Forest -- the classic steep hikers' route up Mt. Hunger. From Waterbury Center, head east on Maple Street / Loomis Hill Road and pick up Ripley Road; follow the blue-blaze signs to the Waterbury Trailhead parking lot. Hike the Waterbury Trail (steep from the start) approximately 1.4 miles; the trail runs directly beside the top half of the falls on the right before crossing the stream immediately above them. Most hikers continue to the Mt. Hunger summit for the big view (total 2.2-mile one-way), but the falls alone are a worthy turnaround on wet days. Note: the trail connects to Stowe Pinnacle via the Skyline Trail for a longer loop.
