Getting there
Middlebury Gorge is a stretch of slot-pool swim holes on the Middlebury River below VT 125, a little east of East Middlebury. From US 7 in East Middlebury, turn east onto VT 125 and drive about 1.5 miles to the bridge crossing the Middlebury River. Small pull-offs sit near the bridge; from there, follow the dirt path downstream with the river on your right a few minutes to the first pools. The gorge is a string of deep slots framed by smoothed ledges, with cold clear water most of the summer. This is an informal site with no restrooms, no lifeguards, and no posted depth checks. Rocks above the pools stay slippery even when the sun is out, current picks up fast after rain, and upstream storms can change the flow while you are there.
