Getting there
Proctor Falls, also called Sutherland Falls, drops roughly fifty feet (with a reported second step bringing the total higher) on Otter Creek in the marble town of Proctor, Rutland County. The flow is tightly controlled by the dam at the Proctor Hydro Station, so on most days the falls run as a thin curtain over dark schist with the main river routed through the plant. This is a viewing-only stop, not a swim: New England Waterfalls flags it as 'not possible and/or prohibited' due to water quality and the hydro operation. The falls are visible from the parking area at the end of the short access road off Mill Street near the Vermont Marble Museum. If you want a real Rutland County swim, Bomoseen State Park beach and Half Moon Pond State Park are the developed options.
