Getting there
Richford Falls is the dam-controlled drop on the Missisquoi River in the village of Richford, near the Canadian border in Franklin County. The flow here is managed for hydro and municipal purposes, so the falls can look big on one visit and run low on the next. This is a viewing-only stop from the public streets and sidewalks near the dam, not a swim; the river above and below the dam carries strong current and the embankments are utility-controlled. Park in village lots, walk to the bridge or dam overlook, and stay off utility property. For a real Franklin County swim, Lake Carmi State Park beach in Enosburg Falls and Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge in Swanton are the area's developed options.
