Getting there
Smugglers Falls is a long seasonal cascade on the eastern flank of Mount Mansfield in Cambridge, Lamoille County, visible from the Smugglers' Notch corridor on VT 108. World Waterfall Database lists the drop at roughly 290 feet in a series of steep slides down the Mansfield face; the source brook is small and runs strongest in snowmelt and within a day or two of hard rain, then often thins to a trickle or dries out by midsummer. There is no maintained trail to the falls themselves. Any approach is a steep off-route scramble through loose talus, cliff bands, and wet rock, and should only be attempted by visitors comfortable reading backcountry terrain. Safer options on the same drive are Bingham Falls in Stowe, Moss Glen Falls in Stowe, and Smugglers' Notch State Park's picnic and trail network. VT 108 through the Notch is closed in winter.
