Getting there
Thundering Falls, long known locally as Thundering Brook Falls, is a 140-foot drop on Thundering Brook in Killington, Rutland County, on the Appalachian Trail in the Green Mountain National Forest. A 900-foot accessible boardwalk leaves the small lot on Thundering Brook Road and runs out through a beaver meadow to the base of the falls before climbing a set of stairs to an upper viewing platform beside the cascade. This is a scenic trail and photo stop, not a swim -- the Forest Service posts no swimming at the falls and the rock around the drop is smooth and slick. Access is free. From US 4 in Killington, turn north onto River Road, then right onto Thundering Brook Road and follow it to the signed boardwalk trailhead on the right.
