Short boardwalk falls on Thundering Brook—viewing only, not a swim hole.
Killington · Rutland County

First Time Here
Park at the River Road Fork trailhead and follow the short boardwalk toward the brook. The experience is quick, accessible by boardwalk standards, and oriented to viewing—not wading in the channel.
Brook water is cold and the corridor is sensitive. Swimming and scrambling off the walkway damage habitat and put you in fast, uneven water.
Should You Go
Good for
- A very short, gentle outing when you want forest and moving water without a long hike
- Families who will stay on the boardwalk and keep kids close
- AT section hikers passing through who need a calm water break
Skip if
- You want a swimming hole or deep wading pool
- You plan to leave the boardwalk to enter the brook—unsafe and inconsistent with this site’s use
- You need guaranteed solitude on summer weekends—parking can fill
Site Note
Green Mountain National Forest postings and seasonal maintenance can change. Treat official notices as final.
