Getting there
West Branch Falls is a small cascade on the West Branch of the Ompompanoosuc River in Thetford, Orange County, above the Union Village Dam flowage. It is and does not carry a canonical entry in the main Vermont waterfall references; surrounding banks are a mix of USACE-controlled dam land and private parcels. Expect an informal path from a allowed shoulder, loose footing, and no signage. Flow in the West Branch is dam-influenced downstream and run-of-river above the flowage. The cascade runs best in spring and within a day or two of rain. For a developed Orange County swim, the Union Village Dam recreation area in Thetford (open Fri-Sun and Holiday Mondays only) is the canonical destination.
