Getting there
Willoughby Falls is a short drop on the Willoughby River below Lake Willoughby in Orleans, Orleans County, famous across Vermont for the spring migration of steelhead rainbow trout that leap the falls each year. The site is managed as the Willoughby Falls Fishing Access by Vermont Fish and Wildlife; access is free and the short path from the fishing-access lot leads to a viewing area above the falls. This is a viewing, fishing, and photo stop, not a swim -- current over the drop is strong, the rock is slick, and the seasonal fish run concentrates people, anglers, and enforcement along the bank each April and May. Please do not climb into the falls, do not net or harass fish, and respect signed fishing regulations. From I-91 Exit 26 in Orleans, follow VT 58 east and watch for the Willoughby Falls Fishing Access sign.
