Getting there
Winooski Falls is the sequence of dam-affected drops on the Winooski River between the cities of Burlington and Winooski, Chittenden County. The current falls are shaped by the hydro dams that stacked across the gorge over the last century; the best viewing is from the Winooski Falls Way overlooks on the Winooski side and the Burlington Bike Path bridge on the Burlington side. This is a viewing stop, not a swim -- current over the dams is strong, utility property is fenced, and the river below the spillways carries real hazards during high flow. Park in Winooski downtown or at the Burlington Waterfront trailheads and walk the overlook loop. While you are here, pair the visit with Oakledge Park beach on Lake Champlain in Burlington for a real swim and a sunset.
